Become a Practice Assessor


Are you a Registered Nurse? You can become a Practice Assessor and help develop future nurses. You will support students and help them develop their professional competence and confidence.


Practice Assessors assess student’s practice learning within placements and help support them achieve and provide best practice. To be equipped with the right skills to achieve this, all you need to do is:

You will also need to complete a competency document.


As a Practice Assessor you can:


  • Support and motivate student nurses to complete their learning.

  • Conduct assessments to confirm student achievement of proficiencies and programme outcomes for practice learning to help them achieve their goals.

  • Make and record objective, evidenced-based assessments on conduct, proficiency and achievement, drawing on student records, direct observations, student self-reflection, and other resources to help them flourish.

  • Maintain current knowledge and expertise whilst acting as a role model.

  • Communicate and collaborate with practice and academic assessors during relevant points in programme structure and student progression to help them succussed (NMC, 2018).
